Coconuts trees are high and their fruits are easier to harvest by a monkey than by a man.
In North-eastern Peninsular Malaysia all the way up to Surat Thani in Southern Thailand, monkeys are trained and used for such jobs.It is not a rewarding job for the monkeys and over-worked monkeys had been known to kill their owners by dropping coconuts on their heads !!!!
There are even schools for the monkeys to attend and train to become a coconut monkey.Sun Wu Kong RULES !!!!
